The Secret Cooking Club

The Secret Cooking Club:
Laurel Remington

Blurb of the book:
Shy Scarlett is the star of her mum's popular blog and she hates it. So when she discovers an empty kitchen next door, and begins to bake, she's desperate to firmly out of the spotlight. As more people find out, and Scarlett's confidence grows. But can the club stay undiscovered? And can Scarlett find the ingredients to cake, family and friendship?

What I read about this book:
Scarlett was living a very normal life and her "best friend", Gretchen, beside her. It was all normal 'till Scarlett's mum made her a blog and her blog become internet famous. Scarlett's mum would ask Gretchen secret things about Scarlett. Once Scarlett's mum knew everything about her, she would blog it, then the next day, over 10 thousand views and comments.

Scarlett hated her "new" life. Gretchen thought Scarlett didn't need her so she ditched her and their friendship and then found a new friend, Allison. Years went by and Scarlett and Gretchen's hatred grew stronger and stronger. Allison was like Gretchen's slave or assistant.

Scarlett found a huge kitchen next door. But that house was owned by Rosemary Simpson, who is currently in the hospital. Scarlet started baking and then one day, Violet showed up and was shocked to see Scarlet in there. Scarlet was questioning Violet but Violet didn't really mind at all.

After all that, they both made an agreement and formed a "SECRET COOKING CLUB".
They would bake everyday after school. After the baked, the next day one of them would enter the cafeteria before break time and just leave samples in the middle table.

They baked and baked until Scarlett gave up for some reason. Scarlett would visit the library instead, after school, while Violet would wait for her and then gave up. One evening Scarlett was walking home and went to enter Mrs. Simpson's house to check on Treacle, Mrs. Simpson's cat. When she walked in, she heard two girly voices coming from the kitchen. "Yummy" a high pitched voice coming from the kitchen. Scarlett immediately knew that, that voice belonged to Gretchen.

DONE!
I'm still currently reading this book.

My Poem

Boys fighting behind the workshops,
Bosses shouting "Chop, chop!"

Kids roaming around the streets,
Teenage boys getting the beats.

Police sirens wailing all around,
Everyone's feet, thumping against the ground.

People walking in & out,
"Son, son!" I can hear a women shout.

The Virus Poem

This poem was written by a teacher. What do you think was her purpose in writing this poem?
That bad time doesn't last a lifetime.
If you were a student in this class, what would you say to the teacher about the poem?
Miss. / Mrs. Gallagher, I really like how you're talking about this dangerous virus. I also like how you're telling people how tough times don’t last and believe me they don’t.
If you had to change a line in this poem, what would it be and why?
I have no lines to change. Because Miss. / Mrs. Gallagher did a very good job on writing this poem.
What virus is this poem talking about?
Coronavirus (COVID-19)
What are 4 ideas you understand about the poem?
“One day there was a virus, and took the world by storm”
“Some people had to stay home and couldn’t go to school”
“It showed us that though time don’t last forever, Yes, eventually tough stuff ends”
What ‘tough stuff’ is the poem talking about?
Having to deal with a lot of problems
Write a short poem about the Coronavirus. We can share this with Megan.
I’m a small thing,
I love to make trouble.

Seeing people suffer,
Is what I adore most.

Everyone wants me gone,
And everyone dislikes me.

I can kill the innocent,
But they’ll never survive me.

Older people die from me,
Younger people can survive from me.

My name is Coronavirus,
But I’m known as COVID-19.
