The Legend of Sina Ma Le Tuna

The Legend of Sina Ma Le Tuna

Long, Long ago in the ancient village in Samoa lived a beautiful girl named Sina. She befriended an Eel and every evening they would talk under the moonlight and swim in the dark ocean.

He would tell Sina of how he was once a handsome prince. Every time he would grow larger and more demanding of Sina's love. She escaped and ran into relatives in a nearby village. She would use every excuse to get away from the Eel but he would follow her everywhere and up to the appearing of the waters.

She told her uncles and cousins of her fear of the Eel and soon her cousin was sent to confront the Eel. In a battle the Eel's head was already apart from his body.

In his final breath he asked Sina to bury his head. In that one day, as a reminder of his love, he sprouted into a tree and brought a fruit with refreshing nectar.

The Eel's face would be on the fruit. Two eyes and one mouth. So every time Sina drank the fruit she would in fact be kissing him.
