Proud To Be Brown

                                 ...Proud to be Brown...

I am Proud to be Brown like the table which my family eats upon.

I am Proud to be Brown like the bark on the tree which my siblings climb on.

I am Proud to be Brown like the soil my nana plants flowers and veggies with.

I am Proud to be Brown like the mud which my friends and family play upon.

I don’t listen to the stereotypes of brown people.

Because they say we are evil.

I may look different from the rest

But that's how I'm addressed.

People define me as a brown girl with no future.

I come with peace. I'm no abuser.

Im Proud to be Brown because I learn how to be grateful.

Just because I’m brown doesn’t mean I’m not faithful.

If I graduate college, I’ll be the first in my family.

Being racist against my race isn’t very manly.

I’m a simple human being that’s brown.

And there’s no way I’m going to change that:)

First Contact: Q & A:)

 First Contact: Q&A

What are the main ideas you have collected from this text?

  • By the first Europeans arrived, Maori had settled the land, every corner of which came within the interest and influence of a tribal or sub-tribal grouping.

  • James Cook arrived in Poverty Bay in October 1769

  • Abel Tasman was the first European explorer to reach New Zealand in December 1642

What year did the Maori first settle in NZ?

By the time the Europeans arrived.

When did the Pakeha first arrive in NZ?

19th century.

What was the purpose of the Pakeha coming to NZ?

The British Government wanted to ask the different iwi if they would agree to Britain making the laws about behavior for New Zealand.

What questions do you have about this text?

  • How did the Maoris feel about all of this?

  • Were there any dangerous risks they had to take?

  • How did their country feel about everything that was happening?

What words did you come across where you had to do extra searching for its meaning?

Economically.

The Secret Cooking Club

The Secret Cooking Club:
Laurel Remington

Blurb of the book:
Shy Scarlett is the star of her mum's popular blog and she hates it. So when she discovers an empty kitchen next door, and begins to bake, she's desperate to firmly out of the spotlight. As more people find out, and Scarlett's confidence grows. But can the club stay undiscovered? And can Scarlett find the ingredients to cake, family and friendship?

What I read about this book:
Scarlett was living a very normal life and her "best friend", Gretchen, beside her. It was all normal 'till Scarlett's mum made her a blog and her blog become internet famous. Scarlett's mum would ask Gretchen secret things about Scarlett. Once Scarlett's mum knew everything about her, she would blog it, then the next day, over 10 thousand views and comments.

Scarlett hated her "new" life. Gretchen thought Scarlett didn't need her so she ditched her and their friendship and then found a new friend, Allison. Years went by and Scarlett and Gretchen's hatred grew stronger and stronger. Allison was like Gretchen's slave or assistant.

Scarlett found a huge kitchen next door. But that house was owned by Rosemary Simpson, who is currently in the hospital. Scarlet started baking and then one day, Violet showed up and was shocked to see Scarlet in there. Scarlet was questioning Violet but Violet didn't really mind at all.

After all that, they both made an agreement and formed a "SECRET COOKING CLUB".
They would bake everyday after school. After the baked, the next day one of them would enter the cafeteria before break time and just leave samples in the middle table.

They baked and baked until Scarlett gave up for some reason. Scarlett would visit the library instead, after school, while Violet would wait for her and then gave up. One evening Scarlett was walking home and went to enter Mrs. Simpson's house to check on Treacle, Mrs. Simpson's cat. When she walked in, she heard two girly voices coming from the kitchen. "Yummy" a high pitched voice coming from the kitchen. Scarlett immediately knew that, that voice belonged to Gretchen.

DONE!
I'm still currently reading this book.

Poetry = No. 2

Rising up from my sleep,

I can hear my phone go beep.

Floorboards creaking,

Running through the corridor.

Footsteps louder than mine,

Birds chirping from outside.

I feel the sun’s warmth,

Coming from the East and not the North.

Tree leaves resting against the wind,

Sea waves crashing against each other.

Today and tomorrow will be perfect,

In the trees I can find insects.

The End:)

Poetry No. 1

Racism

Black People being blamed,
White people throwing them flames.
Donald Trump sitting in his chair,
white people giving them stares.

White or black,
I really don’t care,
God says we all should be fair.
Accepting people should be our goal,
George Floyd had a good soul.

Murdering someone is a sin,
Our bullies shall not win.
“I can’t breathe” is what he said,
Poor George laying in his deathbed.

As he took his last breath,
Who now will be put to death?
Black Lives Matter,
Black people’s hearts shatter.

Winter Garden

Today Tuhi Mai started planting our Winter Garden.
We first planted our separate veggies in a tray. Before we poured the soil we made sure that their we holes in the tray. We poured in the soil and then flatten it with our hands.

Next we pored water on top of the soil so the soil can go down then after that we poked medium holes to put in the veggies. Placing in the veggies were so fun, but really messy. When we placed the vegetables inside the tray we made sure they weren't really close to each other.

We then left the tray to settle down. Mrs. Tofa sent Ali-Jon, Viliami Ma'asi, Tupou, Lesieli, Kue'a, Mason, Ezekiel and I to plant some vegetables in the school's garden.

We first planted Broccoli, then we planted some carrots and then finally we planted cabbage. We had fun planting the vegetables. Lesieli took some photos and videos while we were planting. The only challenging thing was running to refill our water containers.

We finished up and cleaned our hands before we went back to class.

It was really fun planting our veggies and Tuhi Mai experienced a lot.

Down below is photos we took while planting our Winter Garden.
